For public practice experience
When we began administering the experience certification process, we noted some students and employers interpreted the requirements differently, and therefore did not complete the forms consistently. We are including sample forms that cover different scenarios to help students and employers complete the forms consistently.
- Sample 1 shows a typical student with no previous co-op experience; the form would be completed at the end of the term of service. (See also the illustrative example)
- Sample 2 shows a student with 17 weeks practical experience from a co-op work term (in addition to full time experience) and would also be completed at the end of the term of service.
- Sample 3 is the form that should be filled out immediately upon completion of a co-op work term; a separate form should be completed for each term. The information from this form would be transferred to Form 2 on completion of the term of service (see samples).
- We also have a blank form that you can save and print in PDF format.
Note: We require original signatures of both the student and the employer. Therefore, we cannot accept faxed copies of forms.
A typical student with maximum exemptions will have 1.6 weeks shown on the summer school courses line for FPP (assuming they commenced employment September 1 or later. If they commenced employment in, say, May, they would also have to deduct for Module 1 and any other summer courses completed). We note some students have shown FPP under "Uniform Evaluation preparation and writing time", which is incorrect. FPP should be shown under summer school courses. The number of weeks will be greater for students who took extra time off to prepare for summer school.
Some students saved their vacation time to use during their UFE preparation time. In this case, students can reduce the time deducted under "Uniform Evaluation preparation and writing time" by the amount of vacation time used during this period. Students should also provide an explanatory note if this was done and note the maximum annual vacation time is 3 weeks.
Students with previous co-op or part-time work experience who have yet to submit an Experience Certification Form for that period should do so immediately to ensure they receive credit for the relevant time. Keep in mind that experience obtained prior to completion of sixty credit hours will be discounted fifty percent (with the exception of co-op experience in NS, NF and PEI which can be applied 100%). An explanatory note that this was done should be provided.
For New Brunswick students both summer and co-op experience must be discounted 50% for experience obtained prior to completion of sixty credit hours. The co-op or summer experience for New Brunswick students will be recognized to a maximum of 8 months prior to obtaining a degree.
